Better Now Than Never

I first had the idea to write a newsletter in 2014. I had just wrapped up a year of traveling the country as a National FFA Officer and wanted to stay invested in the leadership development process. I played around with a few templates, typed a few drafts, and then got busy with school.

I revisited the newsletter a few months later and decided I didn't really have anything valuable to share, so I postponed again. In 2016, the pastor of my church at the time stopped me one morning and told me, "Jason, I think you should start writing and sharing your messages."

"That's a strange coincidence," I told myself. Again, I found reasons to delay.

It was nearly five years after that, that I finally sent out the first edition of the "Two for You" newsletter.

Let's do some simple math. That is:

-260 newsletters that could have been sent

-Hundreds of hours I could've been developing myself as a writer

-Thousands of subscribers I missed out on (based on current growth patterns)

It wouldn't have been perfect, but at the minimum, it would have been.

Starting and improving is a better recipe for success than waiting for perfection. The perfect moment, the perfect path, or the perfect entry point may never come.

Stop waiting and start starting.

Action

Embrace the identity of someone who does what you want to start, even if you haven't started yet.

i.e. I am a writer (even if I haven't written anything).

Question

What is your go-to excuse for why you haven't started something you want to start?
